DH took these pictures of Kaelin. He is bound and determined to make a Gator fan out of her. She can now say "gator." Me, on the other hand, I've really become sick of football. I feel as if I've become a football season widow. Saturday is college day and Sunday is professional and then there is always Monday night! If ESPN were to go off the air today, I wouldn't be boo hooing one bit.

Our Thanksgiving Art Project

I'm trying to do more and more art projects with Kaelin (it's really fun!) and we did this one Thanksgiving weekend. All we used were some feathers, googly eyes, glue and construction paper. It's just your traditional hand turkey...but it was special because it was Kaelin's first!

Tuesday, December 9, 2008 a Pastry Chef!

Whenever I'm in the kitchen, Kaelin insists on being in there or in my arms to "hep!" or help, me. No matter what I'm doing, she continues to say, "hep, hep, hep" until I let her help. I let her help me make some brownies recently and she was so excited! She does get a little exuberant with her stirring, but I don't mind.

Just look at her smile! She makes a great mother's helper!

Doll Slings

Do you have a little one who mimics your every move? I do! My daughter is constantly picking up my sling off the floor and trying to wear them herself (even though they are far too large for her!). If you have a little wannabe babywearer, get them their own sling! Heavenly Hold has doll slings made specifically for those aged 2-5. Many of them are in natural fabrics like hemp, organic and unbleached cotton. They make a fantastic Christmas gift for only $20!

Just thought this was cute....a Peruvian babywearing doll!

Baby Thoughts...

I am very excited about this new baby! I haven't been to the OB yet, but will go Monday...can't wait to get my first pictures taken!

I'm giving myself daily injections of Lovenox to make sure that I don't get another DVT (blood clot). It's not my favorite thing to do, but it's really worth it!

I did an online due date calculator and it came out to be July 9, 2009...but I suppose it could be earlier if the doctor suggests this one be a C-section...oh yeah, I'm not 45, but I'm considered "high risk". I guess I'll find out what special treatment this label will get me!

DH wants to find out the sex and I don't. He says he'll find out and gladly keep it secret from me...even if I bug him...we'll see how that goes.

Scootababy Baby Carrier vs. Mei Hip Baby Carrier

Ellaroo Mei Hip Baby Carrier
Scootababy Hip Carrier

So many people have asked the question about which of these two carriers are best. Of course, the answer depends on the person and what their specific babywearing needs are. Both of these carriers are meant to be used on the babywearer's hip. So, if you have a baby that prefers to ride on your hip...look no further!

The Ellaroo Mei Hip Baby Carrier is an organic baby carrier. It is unstructured. By this I mean that the waist and strap that goes over the shoulder is floppy and not stiff. A positive of this is that you don't feel restricted with the Mei Hip and it folds up small. A negative of this is that it doesn't give you as much support as a structured carrier. You can wear the Mei Hip with babies that are only a few weeks old-toddlerhood.

The Scootababy Hip Carrier is made from super high quality materials....malden mills fleece and large, custom buckles. Scootababy is a structured carrier. This means that the waist on the Scootababy Baby Carrier has some stiffness to it (and bulk) in order to distribute the weight of your baby between your shoulder, back and hips/waist. The pro of this is that your baby will feel lighter because of the structured waist, but a con is that it's a little more restrictive for the babywearer and it makes the carrier not as easy to fold up and stuff in a diaper bag. The Scootababy Hip Carrier is made to be used with babies 5 months old-toddlerhood.

I have both carriers and I can say that they both have their purposes. Right now, Kaelin is going through a "no baby carrier/babywearing" stage (cry). She'll rarely let me put her on my back, but she will let me put her on my hip and the Scootababy is the carrier that I reach for. I can even go for a walk around the block and not have an achy shoulder or neck when I'm wearing the Scootababy. I know that it's from the structured waist on the Scootababy.

Both Scootababy and the Mei Hip are available at Heavenly Hold and if you find one of them (or any other carrier) that you like, I'm currently allowing customers to put carriers on layaway and pay a little each week for however many weeks they need. I realize that carriers are expensive, but they shouldn't have to be a luxury far as I'm concerned, they're a neccessary baby item!

Kaelin Are You Hungry?

Lately, my daughter has not been a very good eater. Off and on this has happened, but we've been "off" for a while now. Monday was lasagnae (yum!) and she shook her head and refused and disdainfully shouted "NO!" Kaelin ate a few carrots and some strawberry applesauce...or rather "drank some applesauce" as seems to be her new thing.

Last night I made a great creation! Potatoes O'Brien, Smoked Turkey Sausage, green and red chopped peppers and eggs and cheese all cooked on the skillet together. I actually got a little excited because I thought she was going to eat some turkey sausage and eggs because she grabbed right for them, but...they ended up on the floor. Kaelin ate: mozzarella cheese, crackers and mandarin oranges.

I tried just not giving her anything and letting her be angry and have to sit in her high chair, but she DOES NOT give in.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Recently, we flew to Indianapolis, Indiana for the weekend to meet up with my parents who were there for their business back in Newman, CA. My parents own a home improvement center in my hometown and came to the market for their company in Indianapolis. My parents REALLY enjoyed getting to see Kaelin and interact with her everyday. And, Kaelin loved being with them too! Here she is on Poppa's shoulders!

She's collecting her free product samples at the Do It Best Market...a shopper in training!

...and trying out the merchandise to see if Poppa wants to purchase it for his store. So helpful we are!

Yearbook Yourself

I found this site from another WAHM and it is soooo much fun!! This is me from 1976. If you have a few minutes, give it a try for a good laugh. I love the "feathered" hair...even though I wasn't born until 1977, I was still trying to feather my hair through the 80's. I loved using the curling iron!

Craigslist Rocks!!!

Over the summer we decided that our backyard was no fun...we had no fence to contain Kaelin (and a big retaining wall drop off between us and our neighbor). We had nothing fun to do in our little patch of grassy suburbia...soooo....we decided to change it. We found a man to put in a fence for us for a very reasonable price and I bargained with Home Depot and Lowe's to get the price of the materials down as low as possible.

Then we bought a sand table from BJ's and this lovely Little Tykes playset from a woman on Craigslist. This playset is used, but in good condition and we got it for a great price (after some more haggling!). The playset is an 8 in 1 playset because it can be configured 8 different ways which is great because Kaelin won't easily get bored with it! At first she wasn't so sure about the tunnel, but once she saw Calvin (our cat) go through it, she went through it too! She also LOVES the playhouse part of it and often takes my or Adrian's hand and makes us go in the playhouse with her. PLUS, we get friends to come over and play with us with the lure of this really keeps her entertained on her own, or with friends. Now we don't feel like we have to go to a park everytime we want to play....we play in our own backyard everyday!

I'm Getting the Urge to start Cloth Diapering!!

and Kaelin is starting to potty train!! What's wrong with me!?! Unfortunately, I only change about one of her diapers per day (she's with my cousin all day while I'm teaching)...but I still would like to try it! A fellow mompreneur, Rachel from Two Little Whales, is running a contest for a free Knicker Nappie on her blog...check it out...she has a really cute store too, and she's a Georgian!!

Corn Bag Critters have arrived!!

I have added these cute, furry Corn Bag Critters to Heavenly Hold this week. Not only are they cute, but they serve a purpose! These critters are a homeopathic alternative to the electric heating pad. When you have pain from arthritis, fibromyalgia, backaches, earaches, etc. you can pop the insert (not the cover) into the microwave and heat these corn bag up! They will retain their heat up to 1-2 hours.

These items can also be used to replace ice packs and be put in the freezer. The cases (or the critters) are 8 inches in diameter and made from chenille cotton, so they're soft to cuddle with. I can't wait to try one out because I've always wondered about putting something on me that was plugged into the wall (I'm paranoid about radon and the like!).

Monkey Joe's

I took Kaelin to Monkey Joe's for the first time several weeks back. I thought she would really like it since she's starting to love play structures and she LOVES to bounce on things (beds, couches, tramplines, etc). Overall, I was unimpressed by MJ's...I will probably wait a while to go back. We got there right when it opened and shortly thereafter, it was crowded and really LOUD!

Luckily, we got in for FREE, because our neighbor stopped us before we left and gave us his pass!!! This race car ride was Kaelin's favorite thing. She really loves to drive! If you put a quarter in, the race car would move back and forth, but I didn't even put the quarter in and she was happy as a clam! If nothing else, we had free entertainment for an hour!!

New Action Baby Carrier Prints have arrived!!!

This is Cascade and it's my favorite!! I love the earthy green straps and sleeping hood.

Yeah! They're here! And they're gorgeous. This season's prints have a Pacific Northwest theme to them. They are Amy Butler prints and are named for the majestic Northwest. They are earthy and gender neutral. AND...they're available and in stock now at Heavenly Hold.

They are still the great soft structured carrier at a great price ($89). They can still carry a newborn through a 45 lb. toddler. They can still be worn on the front, hip or back, but now, they're just sooo cute!!

The Action Baby Carrier is also available in solid chocolate (with complimentary khaki) and solid olive (with complimentary khaki) for $79.

I didn't even know DH took this at Rock City, but it's my new fav and it's my Action Baby prints are coming very soon! Gorgeous Amy Butler prints! I have 2 carriers left in the old patterns and I REALLY would like to sell them to make way for the new prints!!

Chillin' in the kitchen in our TaylorMade Ring Sling in slate. Look how comfy that

Rock City!

My handsome little brother and I visited in Chattanooga, TN last weekend. It was a great place to meet because there are tons of fun things to do there. I've been to Rock City a number of times because I find the beauty breathtaking there. It is a huge garden created between some truly awesome rock formations and amazing sites (you can see 7 states from Lookout Mountain). A couple in the 50's made it their life work to create this place. Now, the public can see it all. There are some fun things like the wooden swinging bridge (it's veeery long and scary!) and "Fat Man's Squeeze"...two HUGE rocks that only allow you to shimmie through. Adrian enjoyed it as well because his mom and dad took him and his sister when he was young and it brought back a lot of memories for him.

DH's and My Courtship...

...was very short! Adrian and I met via an online dating site. I was wary of this avenue, but had a friend who met a great guy and married him this way. She encouraged me to try it, so I did! I met 3 very nice men and my friend (the one who married her online match) looooved Man #3. I, on the other hand, felt no chemistry with him. But my friend continued to point out all his great qualities and pushed me to give it "just one more date" (more than once). I met Adrian the same week, I had given Man #3 another chance.

We met in downtown Atlanta and went to a free concert in Centennial Olympic Park. We had both discussed our faith and how it was first in our lives and I suggested that we pray together before our date. It felt right.

We shook hands at the end of our date (yes, shook hands!! not even a hug?!?!) and we were engaged 3 weeks later! We were married another month after that! How's that for quick!?

Rockin' Baby Adjustable Pouch

I've added another new baby carrier to Heavenly Hold! The Rockin' Baby Adjustable Pouch is a pouch like no other. I loved using a pouch with my new baby, but this one is definitely the deluxe version. This pouch is adjustable...most are not and must be fitted very carefully. The Rockin' Baby Adjustable Pouch is great because the size S/M will fit a wide range of people because it has hidden zippers that allow it to adjust to four different sizes.

The Rockin' Baby Adjustable Pouches all are made from designer fabrics...the company designs their own prints so you won't see the fabrics anywhere else and they all reverse to a solid they're DH friendly! These carriers can be used from birth through 40 lbs. They're a great investment since you'll be able to use it for 3+ years!! Use the code: SHIP4FREE to buy a new Rockin' Baby Adjustable Pouch from Heavenly Hold.

My Blessed Baby Mei Tai

My Blessed Baby is a half buckle mei tai that I began carrying at the end of July. I've gotten a really great response from babywearers from this new carrier. It's truly the best of both worlds for those that love mei tais and buckle carriers. This carrier has a waist buckle (no mei tai straps dragging on the ground) and it has shoulder straps for maximum adjustability.

My Blessed Baby comes in some really neat prints...some are Amy Butler fabrics. They are also made in organics! This baby carrier also has a hidden pocket to hold a diaper and it has a place to velcro a toy or a pacifier.

Lastly, you can also get this mei tai PERSONALIZED!! How cool is that? You can get your baby's monogram, name or nickname embroidried on the headrest. You can also add a detachable sleeping hood for an extra $20.
