We seem to get so many weeds in our yard for some reason...why do they like us so much? "Weeds of the world unite! Take over Amber's yard!" At least this time we weeded the back yard and no silly neighbor came over and asked me the stupid question (are you pregnant again?). Kaelin, of course wanted to "help" weed the yard....and she did...sort of!

I'm linking this to my friend Heather. She also does "More of Him Monday." We've been taking our state test in Georgia schools this week, so it's been super boring for me (and the kids, too, I'm sure!). I've been "praying" during this time, by writing down my prayers in a notebook during this testing time...this morning, all I could write were the words to a praise song that I used to lead my home church in. It's called "Create In Me A Clean Heart." Here are the words:
Create in me a clean heart, o God. And renew a right spirit within me.
Create in me a clean heart, o God. And renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence o Lord and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation. And renew a right spirit within me.
This song refreshes me.

This awesome new carrier was designed and created by Angela Alexander of Optave, Inc...the same designer and creator of the Active Mom Carrier (also known as the AMC). This carrier is so new that it isn't even on the market yet...but I have one! It is a Soft Structured Baby Carrier and it is VERY lightweight and breathable, but it still has the support that you expect from a SSC. It comes in solid colors and in fun, modern prints. Here are some pics of Kaelin and I with the new Action Pack. They will be added to Heavenly Hold soon...so keep watching!

My husband's birthday was Saturday and we decided to go up to Chattanooga. We spent the night there and took Kaelin in the swimming pool in the hotel. It was really warm and she LOVED it! She squealed with delight nonstop. There was another little baby in the pool and he "shared" his toys with us.
We had a lot of fun on our spur of the moment trip to Tennessee! We ate dinner at Sticky Fingers, walked all around downtown and went to the aquarium. I wore Kaelin on my back with a Heavenly Hold carrier all through the aquarium...I learned my lesson with using a stroller in a busy place when I went to the Atlanta Zoo!

I first heard about 5 Minutes for Mom when I participated in the Ultimate Blog Party (which was so much fun!). I became a reader once I found out these two ladies were believers! Awesome! Janice and Susan are twin moms that help women promote their sites. Right now, their blog has gotten so big that they are looking for a virtual assistant...if you are interested, visit their site!
They are also currently running a contest called "Two Weeks of Toys." LOTS of great toys to win for your kiddos! Check it out!
I've just added this product to Heavenly Hold in the last few days. The Baby K'tan Carrier is a cross between a wrap and soft structured carrier. It allows you to carry baby in 8 different positions and it comes in some really cute prints. The two parents that designed this carrier, had special needs children in mind when working on it. They realized that special needs children might need some special cuddling! But, go ahead and cuddle all your babies no matter what! Here are a coupe of pics of the Baby K'tan.

When we had a leaky diaper a few weeks ago, (well, not we, but Kaelin) I shared the positive customer service experience I had with Pampers.
Adrian and I bought Kaelin a wagon last Saturday from Toys R Us. We ended up having to make 3 trips back to the store because 2 of the boxes that we bought were missing parts. What a pain! When we went back, I asked to speak to the manager because I wanted to tell him what we'd had to do to get our wagon. Plus, no one had offered to go get them in the back of the store for us, no one even apologized. When I started to talk to the manager and I asked him if there was any way he could give us a discount (you know they run those coupons ALL the time!), he cut me off and said he couldn't do anything like that because he had "returns everyday." Well maybe you wouldn't have returns everyday if you had better service and products that were not broken in to and raided for parts!
When I worked in a service position, I was taught to ALWAYS apologize to try to get the customer calmer and to always at least LISTEN to what a customer had to say. People just want to be listened to.
I wasn't happy with the managers response, so I went onto the Toys R Us Inc website and wrote a letter. This is the letter I got back:
Ms. Stevens, I do apologize that you had two negative experiences in one of our
stores. I do understand the frustration of getting two incomplete boxes. I am sorry
that the store manager was rude and unprofessional.
I am sorry that I cannot give you a discount. I apologize for the inconvenience this
If you have other questions Ms. Stevens, please call 1-800-869-7787.
Toys "R" Us Guest Relations Team
Couldn't even give me a NAME?? Just "Guest Relations Team"? Alright, I'm done with my vent.
At least Kaelin loves the wagon!

Back to school today. It was an OK day...I do have to say that I'm on the end of the year countdown already...in case anyone is wondering, we have 29 days of school left! Yeah! That's manageable! Especially if it ever decides to get warmer and we can be outside more.
I missed seeing my kiddo first thing in the morning (she stays at home with my lovely SIL). I did go in and cover her up before leaving for work, but it wasn't the same as seeing her smile. She was very playful after waking up from her nap and that was fun!
I got a TaylorMade Ring Sling in the mail today! So excited to play with it. I carry them at Heavenly Hold and they are a well made a well priced ring sling.

Both Kaelin and I had never been to the zoo in Atlanta before. It's not the best zoo I've ever been to, but Kaelin thought it was spectacular. She thoroughly enjoyed watching the (smaller) animals and the people, too! She loved playing at all the little playgrounds along the way and our picnic lunch that we brought...you'd have thought Wolfgang Puck had cooked us his specialty! We had a really fun day together.

1 lb. lean ground turkey
3/4 c. italian breadcrumbs
1/2 c. mozzarella cheese
1 TBSP minced onions
2 Tsp minced garlic
Mix together with hands but do not overmix. Roll into balls about 1-1 1/2 inches in diameter. Brown in saucepan on stove with a little bit of EVOO.
Add them into your favorite spaghetti sauce and let them simmer...the longer the better!
I know it's been forever since I posted...I've just really been into enjoying my week off with my daughter and it has been more than wonderful!
Here's a quick story that will hopefully shock and appaul you:
My husband was weeding the front yard and Kaelin and I were keeping him company and playing in the yard as well. My neighbor (who is a 31 year old bachelor) drove into his driveway and came out to talk to us and play with Kaelin. He'd been hanging out for maybe a couple of minutes when he asks me the most shocking question ever, "Are you pregnant again, Amber?" WHAT?!?!
I'm definitely not pregnant and I asked him if he had lost his mind asking me that question. Luckily I was able to laugh about it (I've heard lots of women say they cried when they got that question), but what man doesn't know that that question is shark infested waters? He tried to explain why he had asked it...I was wearing a baggy T shirt and bending over to chase Kaelin, etc, etc. DH and I let him know (for future reference) that it didn't matter, that is not an OK question to ask any woman unless you see the baby coming out of them!

I love to wear my girl out ANYWHERE! She is close to me and she can view the world safely. Most of the time we get compliments on our carriers like, "Oh! What a great idea...wish they had that when mine were little!" But sometimes, we get funny looks and stares, like people can't figure out why my baby is in a backpack on my back?
I think babywearing is starting to really catch on, though. You see more and more celebrities wearing their babes and sometimes, you even see characters in tv shows babywearing. Last week, while watching an episode of "House Hunters" on HGTV, I saw a mom wearing her baby in a wrap! I was so excited! I wanted to go log on to thebabywearer.com right away and tell the mamas in the forums, but I restrained myself because I wanted to see if they were going to show her wrapping again!

When I first heard of "babywearing," the term actually made me want to laugh! Who would "wear" their baby...you wear clothes, not babies! Well, since then, if you know me, my view of what is cool to wear has really changed! Lately, I'm wearing my baby with my new AMC (Active Mom Carrier). It is a soft structured carrier (buckle carrier) which makes it super easy to use and quick to get baby in and out of. It's also very comfortable and cute! It comes either lined in smooth silk, or soft, plush minky fabric. There are several colors to choose from. It is black, but the colored part is the accent piece of luxurious ultrasuede. Get your AMC at Heavenly Hold and use the coupon code "WEARME" for an extra 10% off in addition to the free shipping. Enjoy wearing your baby!

I feel like it has taken FOREVER to get here and my patience with my students has been getting thinner and thinner. But today at 2:30, there is relief! I will be spending the next week with my girl and we're going to have F-U-N!! She loves to bounce (like the little girl above), so I hope to take her to a bouncy place and I also want to teach her some more baby signs. Can't wait!

Over the weekend, I was playing with Kaelin on the living room floor. She was on my back riding me like a horse and suddenly I felt a wetness on my back. I asked my husband about it and he could see that my shirt was wet and then we saw that Kaelin's pants were also wet! Uh-Oh! I took her diaper off and saw that the elastic had broken. I changed her diaper and her pants and it wasn't long before the same thing happened again! I guess I'm not too bright because it happened a 3rd time before I figured out there was a bigger problem at hand.
On Monday, I called Pampers and spoke to a VERY friendly and helpful woman who asked me a series of detailed questions about what happened to the diapers in question. They offered to replace the entire case of diapers that were affected, so I'm getting a check from Pampers for $30 for my trouble, plus some coupons!
I always try to give feedback to companies good or bad to help them and help other customers...this time it paid off, literally!

I had to share this article that I got emailed to me at work yesterday (yes I know it was April Fool's Day--but this was real). It is about a group of 3rd graders that got together and plotted to kill their teacher here in Georgia! What is going on? My life is in danger because I teach 3rd grade?
Third-graders questioned on plot to kill teacher, paper reports
Published on: 04/01/08
Police questioned a group of
The nine students — girls and boys, 8 and 9 years old — are too young to be charged with a crime under Georgia law, a prosecutor told the Florida Times-Union. Authorities withheld the students' names because of their age and student privacy laws, the paper reported.
The newspaper's article said:
School officials rounded up the students Friday morning and alerted police after another pupil tipped off a teacher that a girl, the suspected mastermind, had brought a weapon to school, Police Chief Tony Tanner said.
Police seized a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape, electrical and transparent tape, ribbons and a crystal paperweight from the students, who apparently intended to use them against the teacher, Tanner said.
"We estimate between six to nine students were involved. ... We're not sure at this point in the investigation how many of the students actually knew the intent was to hurt the teacher," Tanner said.
The plot was a serious threat, he said.
The parents of the students have cooperated with investigators who, by law, can't question the children without their parents' or guardians' consents, he said.
The target was a veteran educator who teaches third-grade students with learning disabilities in a contained classroom setting, colleagues, friends and parents told the newspaper.

I have watched Andrea do all kinds of art projects with Tate and I've really wanted to try some with Kaelin, but she is 5 months younger than him. I tried showing her how to color with regular crayons, but she couldn't hold them and she thought they were food! I saw that Crayola had some new crayons called TaDoodles that allowed the child to grip the crayon with their palm...much easier for babies' far less developed motor skills. My sister in law got these for Kaelin and they were using them when I got home and she looked so happy coloring! Hopefully this will be the first of many art projects!
